Sunday Sermon 24-06-2012

Sermon of the week : Following God ( Rev Dr Yong )

Are you ready to follow Jesus ?

Emphasis 》
Key verse : Deuteronomy 1 : 21-46
1. We are familiarized with the 12 spies story and this 12 spies acts as a reminder for us. In Deuteronomy , the idea of 12 spies were initially suggested by the Israelites not God and this idea pleases Moses. What pleases us may not be pleasing to God.
2. Among the 12 spies , only 2 returned with good news. The other 10 reported bad news ( facts ) which discouraged the Israelites. To carry a live of faith , we have to learn to live by faith not by sight. Truth can discourage us , however a true faith does not ignore or blind us from truth but work together with the facts we seen.
3. Do not test the Lord our God. The Israelites test God by going against God’s will and decided to work on their own way. When we knew what is God’s will and we purposely go another way or we choose our own way , this is testing God and it angers God , lastly none of them inherits the promises of God, including Moses.
4. However , God gave Moses a last chance to have a full view of the land of Canaan although Moses was not allowed to enter the promise land. From here , we see that God is a loving God, although he is strict and righteous yet he is also full of compassion and grace.
