Prayer Service Sermon 13-04-2012
Title : Prayer Sacrifice ( Pastor Joyce Yong )
Key Verse : Psalms 141 : 2
1. There are 3 things we need to prepare before a sacrifice—an altar, the sacrifice and wood and materials to light a fire.
2. What does an altar means? It means a place to make covenant and encounter God. As Jesus came, he fulfilled the law. The altar was just a symbolism for Jesus and his salvation. What does the altar symbolizes today ?
3. During the ancient times, altar was made of stone. Today, the altar was made using our life (such as : family altar) and our spirit ( such as : praying in tongues ).
4. Prayer is our sacrifice. You realized prayers are like sacrifices , they represent our individual relationship with God. Also, prayer means no reserve , total surrender to Christ like a burnt sacrifice. Jesus often pray , to surrender himself for God’s purpose.
5. There are two things that Jesus warned us not to do when we pray. One– do not only pray for our needs. Prayers are not only limited to needs. Jesus taught us to seek him first, our prayer focus should be on him—not on our needs.
6. Two, do not let your prayer become a routine. Prayer should be whenever there are areas you need to surrender to God , then you pray—not as a daily routine.
7. Lastly, our prayers sometimes are unanswered because we left out something. Without fire, altar and sacrifice wont work. Holy Spirit is a God whom prays. We can seek him and pray for his anointing over our prayers and that will be one pleasing and complete sacrifice.
